WHY WE LOVE, WHY WE CHEAT Helen Fisher is an anthropologist that studies gender differences and the evolution of human emotions. She is considered to be an expert on love. In this seminar, she discusses love. She explains its evolution, its biochemical foundations and its social importance. She talks how she put 32 people who were madly in love under a functional MRI brain scanner. Twelve of them had been dumped and had still been in love, much like Gatsby. He and Myrtle had not been together for 5 years, but when he met up with her again, he did everything he could to win back her love although he knew she was married. He wore eye- catching clothes, drove a bright yellow car, and threw extravagant parties hoping she'd attend. He even began selling bootlegged liquor so he could show her that he was no longer poor. Maybe Gatsby's love was real, and maybe it wasnt. He assumed he would have been able to rekindle what was in the past but it didnt work because Daisy had moved on, which in this sense,so should he. |
