How Reliable Is Your Memory?
This Ted Talk relates to Serial: The Podcast, because Elizabeth Loftus talks about whether memory is always reliable. In Serial, it tells about the murder of Hae-Min Lee and how her ex- boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was convicted for her murder.Throughout the podcast, several people are called in to find out if Adnan had really killed Hae. A friend of Adnan, named Jay, was asked to come in and tell what happened and with his testimony, the police automatically used that to arrest Adnan. Because of Jay's testimoney, Adnan was forced to be in jail for half of his life and no one still had came up with the conclusion on whether it was really him or not. Everyone who had been asked testify, stories changed, including Adnan. Everyone who was asked to testify seemed unsure about their stories. One moment Hae's body was in was in Jay's trunk, then it was in Adnan's trunk. Next, Adnan had got a ride from Hae after school, then Adnan drove his own car. No one's story stayed the same except for Jay but some believe that Jay's whole story was a lie and rehearsed therefore his story could seem valid, but still til this day, Adnan remains in jail because there is not a final conclusion on who murdered Hae. |
Elizabeth Loftus is a psychologist that precisely false studies memory for people who either remember things that didnt happen or remember things differently from how they actually happened.
